Picture Book Prompt 116

“And it dawned on me that I might have to change my inner thought patterns … that I would have to start believing in possibilities that I wouldn’t have allowed before, that I had been closing my creativity down to a very narrow, controllable scale … that things had become too familiar and I might have to disorient myself.” —Bob Dylan

For five minutes, think about a time when you limited your own possibilities because you decided something was “too hard” or “not for someone like me.” Capture both the discomfort and the discovery of what could have happened if you had believed in a bigger version of yourself or what you could create.

Now create a child character who’s stuck in safe, familiar patterns but who has an experience that “disorients” them. What small brave choice opens a whole new world for them?

Let your character discover that the scariest and most wonderful thing is allowing themselves to believe in bigger possibilities.
